Woman dowsed with hot porridge while protecting sister

BALAKA: A 32-year-old woman, Christina Friday is battling for life at Machinga District Hospital after her brother in-law poured hot porridge on her.

Balaka Police Publicist, Edith Kachotsa said in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Thursday that on Tuesday Christina and her young sister went to cheer her sick daughter who was admitted to Machinga District Hospital.

“On their way back, they met with Lovemore Josephy who is the husband to the victim’s young sister. He started insulting the wife without disclosing the reasons.

“The two got on with the quarrel till they reached their house where Josephy started assaulting his wife,” Kachotsa said.

“The victim followed the couple to rescue her sister but in the course of the attempt, her brother in-law took a pot full of hot porridge and poured it on her.

“The matter was reported to Balaka Police and the 22-year-old Josephy (suspect) was arrested,” she said.

Kachotsa said the suspect will appear in court soon to answer to a charge of Act intended to cause grievous harm contrary to section 235 of the penal code.

Lovemore Joseph hails from Mmanga Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.
