Blantyre, Nancholi Youth Organisation (NAYO) with the help from Steven Lewis Foundation is providing nutritious food to 105 people on Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) in Nancholi and other parts of Blantyre.
Speaking in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (MANA)on Thursday, Project Coordinator for NAYO, George Medi said that they started the program in the year 2012.
We provide various nutritious foods like: fortified porridge, cooking oil, maize flour, groundnuts, beans and soya pieces on monthly basis, Medi said.
According to Medi, beneficiaries from Nancholi, Mpemba, Manyowe, Chiimile, Mchokera, Baluti, Mpagaja and Mkoka qualify for nutrition supplements after checking their body weight and screening them for different health conditions.
Stella Gama one of the beneficiaries told Mana that the program has helped her regain her good health.
At first, whenever I took the medication, the side effects were too awful because most of the times I was just taking the medicine without eating because of financial problems, said Gama.
