FIND Hosts Meeting with African Union Ambassadors to Enhance Diagnostic Capabilities

Geneva: FIND, the global alliance for diagnostics, recently hosted a meeting with Ambassadors from 26 African countries and the African Union at its offices in the Global Health Campus in Geneva. The meeting aimed to provide an overview of FIND's work across these nations and discuss future collaborations to enhance diagnostic capabilities, which are vital for effective health responses.According to African Press Organization, FIND's CEO, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, emphasized the importance of diagnostics in early detection and pandemic preparedness. He highlighted the foundation's commitment to innovation and ensuring access to diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries, particularly through collaboration with the African Union.During the meeting, FIND's leadership presented an updated strategic vision to improve diagnostic systems and prepare for potential health and pandemic threats. This presentation was a precursor to the upcoming Diagnostics Day event scheduled for 21 May, coinciding with the World H ealth Assembly.Key outcomes from the meeting included a commitment to strengthen regional manufacturing of diagnostics and health technologies, an agreement to increase AU-FIND cooperation to align with country and Africa CDC diagnostic priorities, and support for FIND's role as a technical partner to enhance access to diagnostics for diseases such as HIV, TB, malaria, and emerging outbreaks. Diagnostics were also recognized as essential to health security and universal health coverage.Dr. Ayoade Alakija, FIND's Board Chair, remarked on the significant role African leaders are playing in addressing health challenges amid global instability.
