Kapenguria County Referral Hospital in West Pokot County has received two baby incubators along with food items courtesy of a collaborative initiative between area Governor’s wife, Mrs. Scobia Kachapin, Mrs. Tessie Mudavadi, spouse to Prime Cabinet Secretary Mr. Musalia Mudavadi, and the Kenya Red Cross Society.
Speaking to the press after making the donation that also included incubator blankets, Mrs. Kachapin, commended the partnership, saying it had played a crucial role in upgrading the hospital’s facilities.
She observed that the donations they made demonstrate how various organisations within a community can unite to tackle pressing needs in the community.
She observed that their contribution showcases a dedication to easing the challenges encountered by the most at-risk individuals in society, specifically children receiving medical care.
She emphasised the importance of adequate nourishment for the recuperation of patients, whereas the provision of medical equipment such as a neonatal incubator ca
n greatly enhance the prognosis for premature or unwell infants.
She said that through their generous contributions, the general public gains insight into the importance of giving and also aids in raising awareness about the difficulties experienced by vulnerable populations, such as inpatients.
Supporting the most vulnerable in society, Mrs. Kachapin said, helps to cultivate a feeling of unity and solidarity among community members.
She noted that maternal health throughout the country ought to be supported and prioritised, with a strong emphasis on encouraging mothers to give birth in hospitals.
Mrs. Kachapin commended the dedication of healthcare professionals who tirelessly care for the ill in hospitals around the clock.
She praised Mama Tessie Mudavadi through the Musalia Mudavadi Foundation for the two baby incubator machines and incubator blankets, emphasising that the equipment will offer specialised care to premature babies and infants requiring critical medical attention.
She acknowledged the
commitment of the Red Cross in assisting the people of West Pokot County, emphasising their vital contribution in offering humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and community support.
She further commended KRCS for their efforts in supporting vulnerable populations and promoting resilience in the midst of adversity.
”The Kenya Red Cross Society’s (KRCS) long-standing commitment to serving communities in times of crisis such as natural disasters, conflicts, and public health emergencies is commendable,” Ms. Kachapin noted.
The County Coordinator of the Kenya Red Cross Society, Ms. Scolla Kapelo, highlighted that the distribution efforts of KRCS aligned with the theme of the 2024 Red Cross Day celebration, which is ‘I give with joy, and joy I give is a reward.’
She noted that the theme highlights the essence of generosity and compassion that the Red Cross represents, underscoring the happiness derived from assisting others and the fulfilment of creating a beneficial influence on individuals’ lives.

s. Kapelo revealed that KRCS is actively involved in aiding individuals impacted by floods in the region by offering emergency relief like food, safe water, medical aid, and necessary supplies.
The KRCS County Coordinator urged residents to actively participate in assisting those in need within the community, emphasising that it is a significant call to action that can cultivate a strong sense of togetherness.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in Charge of Health and Sanitation, Mr. Paul Woyakapel, emphasised that the donation demonstrates a gesture of goodwill that not only brings happiness to the children and their families but also helps ease the challenges encountered by the hospital staff in delivering quality care.
