Sportpesa Pledges Sh5 Million To Support Grassroots Football Teams

Sportpesa has announced a Sh5 million sponsorship of six teams from Kasarani Constituency, an initiative aimed at supporting young people passionate about football. Speaking during the launch Wednesday, Youth Affairs and Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba commended SportPesa CEO, Ronald Karauri (MP Kasarani) for his continued effort in supporting talent in Kasarani, terming him as a key player in promoting sports in the country. ‘I am so excited about this sponsorship because it is in perfect harmony with the bottom-up transformation agenda that our government is driving,’ said Namwamba. He further added ‘The teams have been sponsored to a tune of Sh5 million, that will go a long way in catering for the its needs. I know with this kind of support the teams represented here will reach the national leagues and the Kenya Premier League too.’ Ruai United, Kasarani Football Club, Maji Mazuri FC, Victor’s Faith FC, Mwiki United and the only women’s team Ruai Starlet are the teams benefitting from this sponsorship. The players from the winning team received a donation of brand-new home and away club kits. The sponsorship also includes cash donation that will help the six teams attend their league matches as part of the overall sponsorship cost. Namwamba called upon corporate sponsors to believe and support the sports ministry inorder to get the sports in this country to the next level. Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri said, ‘We say charity begins at home. That is why we have started here in Kasarani. We want this sponsorship to grow. We will expand this across the country so that we stand in support of grassroots teams.’
