Ethiopia, Libya Agree to Foster Bilateral Relations


Ethiopia and Libya have agreed to bolster their bilateral relations, a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued today said.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mesganu Arga conferred with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Libya, Mohammed Issa on the sideline of the 44th Executive Council meeting of the African Union.

The two sides agreed to review previous mechanisms and create ways to conduct political consultation.

They also agreed to enhance cooperation in aviation and labor sectors, it was indicated.

Ivorian Vice President Arrives Addis Ababa for 37th African Union Summit


The Ivorian Vice President, Tiemoko Meyliet Koné arrived in Addis Ababa, this afternoon to attend the 37th African Union Summit, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Upon his arrival at Bole International Airport, the vice president was warmly welcomed by Minister of Peace, Binalf Andualem.

Leaders of African countries have arrived in Addis Ababa ahead of the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union which will be held from 17th to 18th February 2024 in the Ethiopian capital.

President Salva Kiir Arrives in Addis


South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has arrived in Addis Ababa to participate in the 37th African Union heads of state and government summit.

Upon his arrival at Bole International Airport today, Kiir was welcomed by Peace Minister Binalf Andualem and Foreign Affairs State Minister Birtukan Ayano.

The summit will be held this weekend under the theme ‘Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.’

African heads of state and government are arriving in the Ethiopian capital for the summit.

The 44th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council being underway is expected to end today.

Adwa Victory Memorial Museum Belongs to All Africans, Says FM Taye


Foreign Affairs Minister Taye Atske Selassie declared that Adwa victory is a shared heritage for all Africans.

Speaking at the special visit and dinner party organized for foreign ministers and dignitaries at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, the foreign minister noted that the Victory of Adwa belongs to all Africans, emphasizing its significance in fostering Pan-African unity and understanding.

The museum is built to commemorate Ethiopia’s historic victory against the invading Italian army at the Battle of Adwa in 1896.

FM Taye said on the occasion that ‘the victory of Adwa symbolizes African resilience and strengths, and played a pivotal role in developing Pan-Africanism.’

According to him, the Adwa victory was a historic triumph. And ‘it is truly remarkable how this victory continues to inspire and unite African people all over the world. Thus, this museum belongs to all Africans. It belongs to all of us.’

Commemorating the victory is critical to understand the past, remake the present, and shape the
future of Africa, the minister stated.

‘The victory of Adwa is indeed a magnificent revival of the spirit of unity and an embodiment of patriotic leaderships,’ he added.

The foreign minister also took the opportunity to invite Africans to visit the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa.

‘I would like to invite the rest of your delegation and the African youth to visit this museum and share their history.’

The Adwa Victory Memorial Museum aims to inspire future generations towards unity and collective progress.

Foreign Minister Taye Confers with His Burundi Counterpart


Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taye Atske Selassie held a meeting with his Burundi counterpart Albert Shingiro, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation.

The two sides discussed matters of bilateral and multilateral interests as well as ways to further consolidate fraternal ties, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Having a longstanding relationship, Ethiopia and Burundi have been striving to create peace and stability in east Africa and particularly in Somalia, it was learned.

Ethiopia, Zimbabwe Keen on Tightening Relations


Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taye Atske-Selassie, held discussion with his Zimbabwe counterpart, Foreign Minister Frederick Shava on bilateral issues today.

On the sidelines of the 44th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, the two ministers noted the need for cooperation in bilateral and multilateral affairs.

Following their discussion, the two sides told the media about their agreement to enhance bilateral relations and deepen multilateral partnership.
