Ethiopia and Malta have signed today an agreement and two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs), pivotal to strengthen mutual cooperation and benefits.
This came during the occasion when Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Ian Borg, held discussion on areas mutual benefit for both countries.
The agreement inked will facilitate air service and MoUs cooperation in the spheres of tourism and diplomatic training.
During a joint media briefing with his counterpart, Demeke said Ethiopia and Malta have enjoyed strong historical relations.
“We had a very fruitful discussion on various issues of mutual interest and areas of concern for both Ethiopia and Malta,” he said.
Moreover, Demeke elaborated that the two sides have to encourage private sector investment and business to business relations.
Speaking on the important of the MoUs, he stated that MoUs will serve as another platform to enhance cooperation and elevate the cooperation of the two countries to the high level.
Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Ian Borg on his part said the two countries are committed to improving relations between the two nations and people.
“The services agreement we signed today represents an exciting and important first step in securing air connectivity between Malta and central wintering destination with Ethiopia, Africa and beyond,” he elaborated.
He added that we believe that the opening up of air connectivity with Malta will result in growth for our two economies.
Borg also reiterated We are also keen to work on greater cooperation in the field of education and training for Ethiopia’s young people.
Ethiopia and Malta have diplomatic relations dating back to the 1970s, although both countries established official relations when Malta opened its Embassy in Addis Ababa in 2021.
