PM Abiy Affirms Security Institutions Acquire Capabilities to Defend National Sovereignty, Path to Prosperity

Addis ababa: With dwindling geopolitical passivity and elevation of Ethiopia's diplomatic stature, the security institutions have acquired proven capabilities to defend the sovereignty of the country, uphold peace and security, as well as safeguard the path of the country to prosperity, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed underscored. The Prime Minister remarked on the conclusion of discussion conducted with leaders of the country's security institutions.According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized on his social media post that the central mission of Ethiopia's security institutions is to consolidate peace across the nation. He stressed the need to strengthen crime prevention and control, particularly in combating subversion, rural and urban banditry, contraband, corruption, human trafficking, and illicit financial flows.The Prime Minister stated that the free and safe movement of people and goods is vital for prosperity, making it essential to curb robberies, kidnappings, and other criminal ac tivities based on coordination and study. In this regard, he urged security forces to work closely with communities to prevent criminal activities and bring perpetrators to justice.PM Abiy further emphasized the importance of protecting key infrastructure, mining sites, industries, residential areas, and public utilities to ensure uninterrupted services and economic activity. Communities are also supporting security operations with intelligence and logistical assistance.The Prime Minister warned of the growing threat posed by individuals using social media to incite terrorism and disrupt Ethiopia's progress. It was indicated that strengthening cyber monitoring, using technology defenses, and legal measures are crucial to curb the crime.Examining the country's security institutions, Abiy said that the security institutions are capable of protecting Ethiopia's sovereignty, national interests, and constitutional order. He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to building modern security institutions rooted in constitutional values and directed continued efforts to enhance readiness against both internal and external threats.As Ethiopia strengthens its regional role, the Prime Minister said security institutions are well-positioned to safeguard sovereignty, peace, and prosperity. He concluded by reiterating that the central mission of Ethiopia's security institutions is to consolidate peace, ensuring stability as the foundation for national development.
